Internship Description
The Pride Alliance Internship is a year-long internship and a collaborative program with the LGBTQ+2S Resource Center and ASUA Pride Alliance Internship focusing on the identity, educational, and leadership development of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, asexual (LGBTQA+) and allied students at The University of Arizona. This internship is for any students looking to build leadership skills, organizing and event planning skills, foster community, and have a deeper understanding of Queer and Trans liberation!
This position works directly with the staff of the LGBTQ+2S Resource Center and the student Directors for Pride Alliance. All internships can be completed for 3 units of course credit either through an intern’s home department or for TLS 495 Credit.
Objectives
- Students will develop a greater understanding of their personal, intersecting identities, particularly sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression
- Students will develop social justice leadership skills
- Students will deepen their understanding of systems of oppression, power, and privilege
- Students will serve as leaders on campus for LGBTQ+ and allied issues
- Students will build community learn across similarities and differences with the ASUA FORCE internship
Responsibilities of this position include
- Students will participate in a weekly class with Pride Alliance interns focusing on social justice and liberation of queer and trans people, alongside building organizing and leadership skills for the entire fall and spring semester
- Students will participate as members of the LGBTQ+2s Council and attend weekly meetings to plan projects and events with the support of the Pride Alliance Directors
- Students will work with campus and community partners in support of the goals of the LGBTQ+ Resource Center and Pride Alliance
- Students will serve as ambassadors and represent Pride Alliance and the LGBTQ+ Resource Center at outreach events
Credit Assignment and Qualifications
- All internships must be completed for 3-course credits either through an intern’s home department OR for TLS credit. After submitting the application, the Pride Alliance Advisor will work with you to confirm your enrollment for credit.
- Enrolled UA Student
- 2.0 cumulative GPA
- Must exhibit the ability to work with diverse populations through positive communication and interpersonal skills
Time Commitment
- This internship is typically a year-long commitment where students must register at least one semester. Interns must register for 3-course credits either through an intern’s home department or for TLS 495 Credit. A 3-course credit totals 135 hours per semester (40 hours per credit), which averages 5-10 hours per week (this includes class time).
- Interns must attend mandatory training at the beginning of Fall 2025 (Specific Dates TBA)
- Must be available for weekly 2 hour class Political Education class (led by LGBTQ+RC Team).
- Must be available for 1 hour regular intern meetings, and program planning meetings (within the expected 5 -10 hours a week)
- Interns will schedule regular and consistent one-on-one meetings with LGBTQ+ Resource Center staff or Pride Alliance director throughout the year (based on the availability of the intern and staff)
- Programming attendance and support throughout the week (1 hour a week)
